I wrote this poem quite a few years back, as I was increasingly realizing how important it was to heal using vibration, sound, the breath and other such healing pillars we find in Jyoti. There are different lenses through which we can view imbalance or dis-ease, and health also. In our modern era we tend to like to see through the lens of physiology and chemicals. Even herbalism and modern naturopathy tend to lean in that same direction - physical and chemically oriented cures, for physical and chemistry related problems. Yes our body is an ecosystem, and we do need to tend to this garden, but it is also housing the soul or the spark of consciousness that is our true nature. A part of ourselves that is easy to forget about in this era of materialism and endless outer distractions. A part of us that is living quite free from the endless merry go round of thoughts and feelings, that so often overwhelm us in negative and unconscious ways, and often only grow in time. According to holistic philosophy, many if not most of our physical ailments come from more subtle levels of imbalance or misalignment - or misperception. We can avoid a great deal of suffering when we realize this, and in the process we help can help to heal a greater situation we are all in. So Jyoti is a process of calming and transmuting the momentum of painful patterns, and creating and inner sanctuary and alchemical laboratory that can turn lead into gold. Most of us have been on a wild goose chase, chasing all the things we have been programmed to think will bring us happiness and fulfillment. However, the irony is that the process of really accessing inner peace and self realization so often involves not-doing, not aggressing our way out into the world, but instead settling into our being, exhaling and letting go of trying to get further ahead. In this way we are not trying to "do something" with Jyoti as much as settle into a natural state of being and let the higher intelligence of nature do us. The result is not that we literally "do nothing" but that we instead are in relationship with a kind of natural flow of energy. A natural flow that is otherwise impeded by our grasping, aggression, and expectations of what we "think" the best outcome should be from an ego level of awareness, unconscious programming, and primal drives. It's important that we have tools that can help us in this era, to stop the whirlwind and timeless methods that allow us to settle within. Not because we should, or we have to, but because we are fortunate that we can. The struggle of life is like a monkey trap that binds more tightly the more that we grasp, and also the more we resist. The question then, is what is best response to such a situation? This is a key pillar of the Jyoti way, how do we surrender and soften our nature to allow a kind of natural liberation to unfold. More precisely, how do we do this in a modern environment designed to inspire the opposite in us - more craving, more grasping, more resistance and so on. As so many of our emotional and physical issues are the result of the "state" we are in and how connected or disconnected we are inwardly to that inner sanctuary of peace that is our true nature. A key component of how much ease we live with, versus dis-ease, is the level of perception are we living from and perceiving from? What intentions or motivations are we walking with in our hearts? Are we grounded? Are we breathing? Do we walk with faith or in fear? Are we clinging or are we letting go? Are we in sync with our authentic selves? Are we grateful for the moment or atleast able to accept it on it's terms, as it is? How do we choose to process or avoid unpleasant emotions? It takes great effort to go against nature, to be out of sync, to be in tension and resistance, so to begin with we will be exploring the process of allowing healing to happen - not forcing it to. These are small examples of a pathway to healing that are not requiring that we buy and ingest something. This kind of healing is a part of us to the very core. So let's consider that Jyoti is simply a word that points to a process that naturally arises within us when we calm, centre, and we allow our deeper nature to do it's thing. It sounds easy but it seems to take some practice. A huge part of this "thing" that nature does is healing; healing cuts, healing infections, healing wrong views, and healing physical and emotional patterns that "cut us off from our wholeness" or are not in alignment with our potential for wisdom, peace, and happiness. We are not talking about spiritual by-passing here, as we still need to be present with our physical feelings, and thoughts, but in a way that they are naturally liberated. This is a graceful process, that integrates core teachings from various traditions both old and new. Ways that align us, "tune us", and allow us to unhook from very old patterns of karmic cycles - while not making enemies of such patterns at all. Lastly, at first this is a process we do when we meet, but as we go onward it infuses our lives and can benefit the lives of others around us. As we proceed let's dedicate our efforts to all beings, to the animals, the plants, the elements, and to the multiverse and whatever your word is for that holy light and most high and loving spirit of creation at large. We are nature, and nature is us, we are all sparks from the one source, and we are all as Ram Dass once said "walking each other home." I welcome comments or questions at the start of each of our gatherings, here's the poem, enjoy: MAESTRO OF MEDICINE The doctor of the future Is an artist-musician The doctor of the future Knows that all is vibration. That disease is a state And health is a station That disease is a lack Of realization. That the body of form Is but a vessel for light, And right use of the breath Will channel it right. That light is in-formation And light is our-formation, As we’re frozen light And frozen sound And when our capacity for love And true insight abounds – The healing of nature Will finally be found. So sound of mind, And sound of heart. The maestro of medicine - Knows healing Is art.
